Christmas
Friend Liner
Notes
My wife and I were motivated by the children's project in our church
where the kids were helping children living in Shelter House (a
homeless shelter) get gifts for Christmas. The children living
in the shelter had a wish list of toys and their parents a wish list
of mostly basic necessities. We really enjoyed shopping for
toys for these children that we'd never met. It really brought
the joy into the holiday for us. We even decided to forego our
usual purchase of a live tree and instead donate that money as well.
The holiday season can be lonely enough for people who have a place
to live but it must be extremely difficult for the homeless. I
imagined a guy - maybe just like me - but down on his luck and
wandering through the streets of Old Towne with all the holiday
lights and shops and restaurants filled with people eating and
knowing that he had no money for food or gifts or Christmas cards and
no place to go and no one to care about him. And that was
really the inspiration for this song and why I wanted to make a point
of giving any profits to Shelter House.
I hope that anyone reading this will take some time during the
Christmas Season to help someone less fortunate and experience the
true joy of giving. Merry Christmas!
Christmas
Friend Lyrics
I
walk down the sidewalks of Holiday streets,
All
decorated with Holiday treats.
Light
snow is falling to accent the scene,
But
it's not for me it's only a dream.
It's
Christmas time again,
and
I have no cards to send.
It's
Christmas time again,
and
I wish I had a friend.... At Christmas time.
A
look through a window and what do I see,
Good
people singing around the tree.
Wonderful
smiles on everyone's face,
But
I'm all alone in my empty space.
It's
Christmas time again,
and
I have no cards to send.
It's
Christmas time again,
All
alone with out a friend...At Christmas time
Cold
snowy night on a dark Christmas Eve,
Old
man in his shop he calls out to me.
Come
on inside and stay for a while,
Get
out of the cold and put on a smile.
I
brush off the snow and walk through his door,
White
beard and red hat?...I'm dreaming for sure.
He
grants me a wish but that's not the least...
There's
a table with friends and a Holiday feast.
It's
Christmas time again,
And
now have cards to send.
It's
Christmas time again,
And
now I found a friend.
It's
Christmas time again,
And
I hope it never ends.
It's
Christmas time again,
It's
a time to share with friends...
